GET DOPAMINE FROM EXECUTION, NOT PLANNING
Yesterday, I discovered that overplanning releases as much dopamine as executing the tasks themselves. This means that excessive planning and contemplating which tasks to perform actually diminish the likelihood of taking action; you receive the dopamine reward upfront, which depletes your drive to actually start.
Instead of focusing on overplanning or meticulously mapping everything out on paper or a calendar, you should be an artifact-based or action-based person. Start with a minimal viable action stack—the bare minimum required to begin.
By establishing pace and progress first, you derive dopamine from execution, which is the best possible approach. This breaks the vicious circle of planning, preparing, and procrastinating for days, only to end up doing five minutes of the work you spent so much time planning.
